So, Sony has unveiled its new Xperia Play handset, which is more commonly known as the ‘Playstation Phone’, at the Mobile World Congress 2011 in Barcelona.

Everyone is talking about the four-inch multitouch screen and a slide out PlayStation-style controller not to mention the graphics processor and promise of “silky smooth 3D mobile gaming”.

However what has struck us here at 08 Direct is that none of the reports we’ve seen so far actually talk about its capabilities as a communication device at all. So is it really a phone or more an updated PSP games console which is able to make calls and send texts?

No doubt it will sell by the bucketload and if gaming is your thing, then you’d be daft not to check it out, but if you want to communicate it may not be the best choice.
