Developments in technology have been stated as the key to a better work-life balance according to a survey of over 2500 UK employees, carried out by market researcher Opinion Matters.
Just under half of those (45%) of those asked say that technology has changed their job role or career in the past year, with 21% saying that they have been able to achieve a better work-life balance thanks to technology.
Working more flexibly and being able to work more effectively have been just two of the benefits that respondents gave from using advanced technology in the workplace, with one in ten saying they are able to do their jobs better.
Workers between the ages of 35-44 were found to be the most likely to find a better work-life balance whereas employees between the ages of 16 and 24 were least likely to find technology helpful.
The research also revealed some intergenerational tension as some older workers believe that their younger peers expected to move up the career ladder quicker as they are more tech-savvy.
While a small minority (3%) say that technology has made their role more challenging, the majority of workers say that they have been able to make a smooth transition into working more flexibly, helping one in five employees to balance work and home.
