Today is the the day that the US Senate is voting on a bill to save America’s economy by increasing its debt limit by $2.4trillion. Now as someone who works for a telecoms business, I like long numbers but in this case I had to write trillion as I didn’t want to type out all the noughts for a million million!
But enough of that, back to business… You may remember a time when Apple was teetering on the edge of extinction as it battled the PC giants like IBM with its revolutionary, but let’s be honest, pretty quirky inventions. It looked like it was doomed, but now, a couple of decades on, and with total game changers like the iPod in the bag, the tables have turned…Apple is now one of the biggest, most successful brands on earth and is making money hand over fist, according to its latest financial results.
In fact, Apple is not only successful, it is now richer than the entire United States government. Latest figures from the US Treasury Department show that the country has an operating cash balance of $73.7bn (£45.3bn). Apple’s most recent financial results put its reserves at $76.4bn.
The United States is currently spending around $200bn more than it collects in revenue every month. Apple, on the other hand, is making money by the bucket load and in the three months ending 25 June, net income was 125% higher than a year earlier at $7.31bn.
So, the point of this post? First, it is clear that technology really is one of the most powerful forces on the planet. Its power exceeds entire governments and economies.
Second, applied in the right way, technology can revolutionise the world we live in. Now we’re not saying that by using 08direct.co.uk’s advanced call management services you’ll take over the world, but they can seriously add to your business efficiency, enhance you customer experience and therefore boost your bottom line.
So follow Steve Jobs’ (Apple’s founder) lead – think about how you can use technology to make your business better and who knows where you’ll be in 5, 10 or even 20 years time…
